Welcome to the Biochemistry Ph.D. Program at Florida International University
At Florida International University, the Biochemistry Ph.D. Program is an interdisciplinary program administered jointly with the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Department of Biological Sciences and the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
The Biochemistry Ph.D. Program includes over 40 faculty who are renowned experts within various disciplines in Biochemistry and Cellular & Molecular Biology. The program offers cutting-edge research, first-rate teaching and innovative training that prepares our students to tackle contemporary problems of biology and medicine with fundamental theories of biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, as well as biochemical and biomedical research techniques.
Our mission is to produce quality Ph.D. students equipped with cutting-edge knowledge, critical thinking capabilities, and well-rounded problem-solving abilities in both academic and industry settings.
FIU undergraduate students who are interested in the Biochemistry Ph.D. program are encouraged to participate in undergraduate research by registering for “Student Research Labs” with the biochemistry faculty. Other prospective applicants are also encouraged to visit the FIU campus, perform summer research, or proactively communicate with the biochemistry faculty. The program expects students to have substantial interaction with their mentor to start their graduate research in the first semester, contingent upon permission from the Biochemistry Executive Committee.
